Ubuntu Hibernate Does not Work!

Anyone having trouble with hibernate, resume from hibernate or both on Ubuntu? I had a problem while resuming from a hibernate: the Ubuntu splash screen would show "resuming from /dev/disk/<uuid>" and then just freeze forever. After some googling around I found that many users have problems with hibernate, suspend, and/or resuming from these states.
I found a fix for my issue on this link: http://chriseiffel.com/everything-linux/step-by-step-how-to-get-hibernate-working-for-linux-ubuntu-11-04-mint-11/ .
It also addresses several other possible hibernate/suspend issues.

Why so much hatred...?

Is it just me or has the amount of hatred in the world overflown already? Everyone finds it so convenient to spew such terrible things about the government, the people of the govt., scams, and everything else that all I can see around me is negativity. This is just so depressing!

Changing allegiances...slowly.

How many of you have 'dual-boot' computers? Linux with Windows, or more specifically Windows with Ubuntu?

Learning to sit still.

This isn't a new idea at all. I just googled it and found blog posts about it. Same idea, different ways to put it. I'm talking about 'meditation'.

A trip to 'DC

I made a little trip to Washington DC with Arjun yesterday. Had a great time sightseeing even though rain (a soft spray, more or less) played spoilsport and didn't let up even for five minutes.
We made it by around 12 noon from Philly and were greeted by the wet weather. Finding our way around took a little while, but we managed okay thanks to Google Maps. God bless technology; what would we do without it!

Teleported!

Okay, I hardly told a soul around me that I am going abroad for a month and now here I am sitting in my hotel room feeling lost and lonely on a Sunday morning with no one from back there asking 'you alright, man', or 'how do you like it there? settled into the new routine yet?'.
My bad.

The "computer" in movies and TV shows

I cannot count how many times I've seen movies (especially Hollywood sci-fi's) show a computer as some thing very alien or "sci-fi-like" or "futuristic" or... well, you get the idea. Computers, or more specifically what the monitor shows, in these movies do not look like the computers we all know: a windows desktop, a Linux shell/desktop, or a Mac. They are deliberately made to look like something mere mortals cannot understand, let alone work with (think the X-Men series).

Use your flashlight as a 'candle'.

You can use a normal flashlight for uniform (although dim) lighting during a power cut at night. Emergency lights are better, ofcourse, but they are expensive and heavier too.
When we point our flashlight at something in the dark, its only spot-lights a small area

A weekend well spent! :-)

Hi!
I could write on and on about the trip I had this weekend, but that would be quite a job! So I'll post some pictures here and caption them to tell the story. Hope you find them interesting. :-) To see all the photos from this trip, click here (Picasa link). Click on the images below to see the full-res version.

I'm Back!

I'm just back from my weekend trip. Had a good time, overall. Finally, a weekend well spent! :-)
Will post details in a day or so, too tired right now. The photo-haul seems to be decent from a prelim glance-through but can't be too sure just yet.

A Trip! YAY!! :-)

Time for another weekend trip! This time I am traveling alone to a little waterfall not very far from Kochi.
The place is called 'Thommankuthu'. Besides the waterfall I also plan to visit a dam that is said to have a really beautiful lake.
Looking forward to a lovely weekend of nature-walks, solitude, and photography!
I should be able to post a full account of the trip by Monday evening, along with the photos.

Thought of the day

Here goes:  "Courage is not essentially the absence of fear, it is to keep going even when you are scared to death".
This isn't entirely original, I've seen similar quotes several times on the net. But I find that I can relate with it nicely. I fight anxiety (GAD) almost every single day and do my routine work: my job and everything else. This is what I do every day when I stick to what I am doing even though it makes me so anxious that I just want to throw it aside and run away. It's not easy, believe me. But when I have to do something despite significant anxiety I tell myself that its okay: courage to keep at it isn't merely absence of fear, it simply means to drag yourself through it anyway and get the job done. Just stay with the fight!

On slowing down...

I spend most of my time jumping from one thing to another, trying to 'multitask' all the time even it means just thinking/planning about too many things all at once. Its exhausting.
At the end of the day I feel that I simply wasted the day away worrying and thinking and making plans, or simply dreaming about things that aren't really there. Nothing much was accomplished. And the cycle repeats itself the next day, day after day. Weekends whiz by: I spend the time doing all the mundane stuff (TV, facebook...?), trying too hard to 'enjoy my free time', and avoiding things that really need to be done (chores?). Nope, that's not the way it works! Weeks go by, and I remain where I was, hardly moved at all.
Rings a bell? Well, then maybe I have company!

Feeling you are not quite 'livin' it up'...?

I came across this article recently. I could relate to some of the things it said.
Feeling as if you are missing out on something in life but can't name it, feeling a bit lost/confused whether you really are living your life the way you 'should'? If yes, this article may help you.

Liked it? Here's another, on the same site, and quite related too.

Cheers,
Aashish.

The first post. Welcome! :-)

Hi,
Kicking off my new blog with a very brief post.
As the description above says, I will post anything and everything I feel like sharing. Over time, though I might make it more organized, such as grouping similarly themed posts together, or maybe even giving the entire blog a single theme.
Here's hoping that I will post something almost every single day!
:-)
Cheers,
Aashish.
